No trip to Arizona is complete without a visit to the Grand Canyon. With over 6 million visitors yearly, it’s something you have to see! However, if you want to get up close and personal with a touch of luxury, I highly recommend glamping in the Grand Canyon, and the best place to do that is at Backland Arizona in Williams, AZ.
How To Get From Williams Arizona to the Grand Canyon
Williams, Arizona, is a town one hour away from the Grand Canyon, so it’s a perfect place to stay during your trip. There are several ways to get to the Grand Canyon from Williams. First, you can rent a car and drive to the South Rim Entrance. I did this during my trip and only recommend it if you have patience, as the wait was about 90 minutes. Since 2020, national parks all over the country have been severely understaffed so it will take longer than usual. This option is excellent for those who want to hike around the canyon and see it from many different viewpoints.
Another way to visit the Grand Canyon is to take a helicopter ride. Several companies will tour the canyon and give you a bird’s eye view. If I were to visit again, this is the option I would choose. This option is best for people (like me) who want a quick photo opportunity, check it off their bucket list, and head back home.
The third way to visit the Grand Canyon from Williams is to take the train. A steam train leaves once a day from the Grand Canyon Railway Station. The train leaves at 9 am and returns around 5 pm, with three hours to explore the canyon. This option is best for families or if you want to experience the canyon without driving. I opted out of this experience because I didn’t need a full three hours for a photo opp.
Glamping Near the Grand Canyon at Backland
I chose to stay at Backland because I wanted to try luxury glamping in Arizona, and I got just that. When it’s time to drive up, download Google Maps offline, as cell phone service can be spotty in the area. Also, check their website for detailed driving instructions since it can be easy to get lost (I got lost twice!). However, the staff was super friendly, and they were a simple phone call away.
Let’s talk about the facilities because they are immaculate for a glamping tent. There are 10 tents total, with plenty of space in between for privacy. I had the sky suite, so you could see stars all around you at night. The tents are equipped with electricity, a full shower and toilet, a refrigerator, charging outlets, and a king-size bed for your pleasure. This is the best glamping experience I’ve ever had in the States! The Backland staff took their time with the details, and I appreciated it during my stay.
Please note wifi is only available in the lobby, but I took it as an opportunity to disconnect and relax. You are glamping in the Grand Canyon after all!
The lobby has a full kitchen and bar with gourmet meals for breakfast and dinner and a mini-mart for those late-night cravings. In addition, the property has hiking trails, kayaks, and board games to keep you entertained. Visiting Backland in Williams AZ should be on your bucket list during your trip to the Grand Canyon. I thoroughly enjoyed my visit and highly recommend it to anyone visiting the area.
