Table of Contents
Are you planning a weekend away in the Algarve? If not then you definitely should add it to your Portugal itinerary. The Algarve region in Portugal has plenty to offer with quaint towns, famous beaches, and relaxation at every turn. I truly believe everyone needs to add a stop to this region during their visit because it is so unique.
While you’re there, take some time to avoid the crowds and stay in a Portugal hidden gem: Fuseta!
Why Should I Visit Fuseta?
This was my second visit to the Algarve region of Portugal, so I was looking for a different adventure than the typical vacation. This itinerary is for those looking for a European adventure off the beaten path. I was in search of some beach time without the crowds, and Fuseta delivered in more ways than one! Not only do you get the pristine beaches the Algarve region is known for, but you also get to experience the region from a local’s perspective virtually tourist-free! Keep reading if you’re looking to explore some hidden gems in the Algarve.
Where Should I Stay In Fuseta?
Now that I’ve sold you on Fuseta, you might be wondering where you should stay. You have to stop by this carpenter’s workshop turned loft: Somewhere Special! Known as one of the best Airbnbs in Fuseta, Portugal Somewhere Special has everything you need for your summer holiday. Less than an hour from famous beaches like Praia de Rocha, Villamoura, and Albufeira, Somewhere Special is in a perfect location for your Algarve adventure.
When you choose to stay at Somewhere Special you’re helping to support the local economy in Fuseta. Cedric the host owns the loft as well as several other properties in the Algarve region with his family. The loft is decorated with art created by his grandmother, inspired by her travels all over the world.
The loft comfortably fits four people with plenty of space for privacy. My favorite feature has to be the jacuzzi tub on the top floor. Take a look at the space on my Instagram below!
It comes loaded with everything you’ll need during your visit with two bathrooms, a fully stocked kitchen, and plenty of space for entertaining! What I loved most about the loft was that it was centrally located, within walking distance to the beach, and across the street from a grocery store.
In the morning, you can see a myriad of flamingoes and sea birds right from your bedroom. Make sure to head out to the deck or balcony (You have both!) for an epic view of the sunset. Check it out in my IG Reel here!
How Do I Get To Fuseta?
If you’re coming from Lisbon you have several options on how to get to Fuseta for your stay. I’ve listed the options below from most to least efficient, all of these options will take you through the major city of Faro. Then you can take a 20-minute Uber/Taxi ride from there to Fuseta.
-
- Fly From Lisbon to the Faro Airport: This option is great for those who have light luggage and want the fastest route. Tickets usually start around $50-100 USD and make for an efficient trip in less than one hour. Click here to book your next flight with CheapOair.
-
- Drive from Lisbon to Faro : There are several car rental options in Lisbon, but I recommend Cael. They are efficient and straightforward, everything you need in a car rental when traveling abroad. If your goal is to beach hop, then you’ll need a car or a private driver. My recommendation is to get one before you head down, as most car rentals will require you to pick it up from the Faro airport. You can find a rental car with RentalCars.com Here!
-
- Take Public Transportation from Lisbon to Faro: There are several public transportation options when traveling from Lisbon to Faro. You can take the high-speed train from several stations in Lisbon and the total travel time is around 3 hours and tickets start at $30. There also is a bus that takes around 4 hours and tickets start at $15.
How Can I Get Around in Fuseta?
Fuseta is a relatively small town, and if you stay at Somewhere Special you will be in the middle of all of the action. If you plan on only staying in Fuseta you should be able to get around by foot using Uber, or a local taxi app like Izzy. If you want to visit surrounding towns I suggest renting a car or hiring a private driver, as Uber can be spotty in certain areas.
Pro Tip: Whenever I’m traveling I always like to take the name and number of my taxi/Uber driver. This is a great way to have a contact for transportation when in a new city. Often times drivers have information about local tours and can give you a fair deal, just make sure to verify it with trusted sources.
What Is There To Do in Fuseta?
I recommend a 2-3 night visit to fully soak up the full experience when visiting Fuseta. At this pace, you can have a few beach days, try out some water activities, and relax without feeling rushed.
Praia de Fuseta is a short 10-minute walk from the loft with plenty of activities to do. You can lounge at the local beach club, walk the boardwalk, try the restaurants or take a ferry ride to the surrounding beaches. They even have private boat companies that will take you on a full-day excursion to see some dolphins!
Need another reason why you should stay at Somewhere Special? You’re walking distance away from arguably the best restaurant in Fuseta, Mo de Cima. In fact, you’re so close you can see it from the loft! Reservations aren’t required but I suggest calling ahead for big groups as there is limited seating. I loved my visit so much I went twice!
So now that I’ve convinced you to stop by Fuseta, make sure to let them know I sent you when you book!
